In 2024, Fine Work Kenya Limited was contracted to execute the installation, testing, and commissioning of specialized kitchen fire suppression infrastructure for the luxury boutique hotel Gem Forest Hotel Nairobi – MGallery Collection. Situated along Limuru Road near the Karura Forest diplomatic enclave in Gigiri, this flagship 5-star hotel property features multiple high-end culinary venues and dining spaces.
Fine Work Kenya Limited managed the full deployment lifecycle of the industry-standard Ansul R-102 Wet Chemical Fire Suppression System, delivering a turnkey solution designed to protect the hotel’s culinary assets, operational staff, and guests while complying with local building regulations and international hospitality safety standards.

The Challenge

As a design-led 5-star property operating multiple fast-paced commercial kitchens and specialty restaurants, Gem Forest Hotel relies on continuous, high-temperature cooking equipment, open flames, and deep fat fryers. Kitchen extract hoods and cooking surfaces present inherent risks for high-intensity Class K grease fires. For a global brand under the Accor MGallery Collection, any fire hazard carries critical threats of business interruption, costly asset damage, and life safety risks, requiring an automated, zero-failure protection system.

The Solution

Fine Work Kenya Limited supplied, installed, tested, and commissioned targeted Ansul R-102 Wet Chemical Fire Suppression Systems across the hotel’s main kitchen extraction hoods and high-risk cooking zones:

• Automated Detection & Actuation: Outfitted with precise thermal detection networks that automatically trigger liquid suppression the moment a fire breaks out.
• Saponification & Surface Cooling:. Discharges a low-pH wet chemical agent directly onto cooking appliances and grease filters, instantly forming a heavy foam blanket that smothers flames, cuts off oxygen, and cools hot surfaces to eliminate reignition risks.
• Rigorous Testing & Commissioning: Conducted thorough system pressure testing, electrical interlock verification (automatic gas shut-off and exhaust integration), and operational handovers to ensure total system readiness.

The Outcome

Fine Work Kenya Limited completed the project on schedule, successfully commissioning a fully certified Ansul R-102 fire protection system. The installation provided Gem Forest Hotel Nairobi with robust, compliant fire safety infrastructure, ensuring seamless culinary operations and protecting the luxury estate’s infrastructure and patrons.
