Project Overview

Between 2023 and 2024, Fine Work Kenya Limited was contracted to implement specialized physical security and clean-agent fire suppression infrastructure for Wananchi Deposit-Taking (DT) Sacco Society LTD at their primary facility in Othaya. As a deposit-taking financial institution, Wananchi DT Sacco requires high-level protection for its critical IT infrastructure, server rooms, financial assets, and staff.
Fine Work Kenya Limited delivered an integrated protection package combining high-security physical barriers with an environmentally friendly, clean-agent Inergen Gas Fire Suppression System, safeguarding critical data assets without damaging sensitive electronic equipment during a discharge.

The Challenge

Financial institutions face twin vulnerabilities: physical security threats to vault and server spaces, and high fire risks within sensitive server rooms and IT control centers. Standard water or chemical sprinkler systems cannot be used in server rooms, as water or corrosive residues destroy delicate electronics and cause permanent data loss. The challenge was to deliver total physical perimeter security while integrating a waterless, clean-agent fire suppression solution that protects critical IT infrastructure with zero downtime or equipment damage.

The Solution

Fine Work Kenya Limited designed and installed a comprehensive, multi-layered physical and fire protection system:

• Inergen Clean-Agent Gas Fire Suppression System: Installed an automatic total-flooding gaseous suppression system in the server/data room. Inergen (a natural gas mixture of Nitrogen, Argon, and Carbon Dioxide) lowers oxygen levels below combustion thresholds to extinguish fires instantly—leaving zero chemical residue, causing no thermal shock, and remaining entirely safe for personnel and electronic hardware.
• Fire-Rated Doors: Fitted certified fire-resistant doors across server rooms and high-risk utility zones to maintain structural compartmentation, preventing flame and smoke spread between building sections for up to 120 minutes.
• Anti-Burglar Glass Windows: Installed high-impact, reinforced anti-burglar safety glass across critical service perimeters and exterior windows to deter forced entry, unauthorized access, and ballistic/impact threats.

The Outcome

Fine Work Kenya Limited completed the installation and commissioning on schedule, providing Wananchi DT Sacco with a state-of-the-art secure environment. The project reinforced Sacco’s operational continuity, ensured strict regulatory compliance with financial sector security standards, and protected critical banking records and digital assets.
